About cosmetic dentistry

Many Americans would be startled to know that, 100 years ago, approximately half of all North American adults were toothless. They had to rely on dentures made from wood, animal teeth, and other less than perfect substances to get by. Luckily, thanks to improved cosmetic and family dentistry technologies, less than 10% of American adults over the age of 65 have lost their teeth.

One of the biggest improvements in dental medicine can be seen in cosmetic dental implants. No longer do we have to rely on the dentures of old that were made so famous by our first president, George Washington. If you have lost your teeth due to an accident or age, a dental implante specialist may be just what the doctor ordered.

What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are used to replace the roots of missing teeth. First, a titanium root is placed directly into the jawbone. If necessary, this root will be bone-grafted directly to the jaw. After that is allowed to heal, an abutment will be placed on top of the root. Lastly, a synthetic crown, generally made out of a high-end porcelain or acrylic resin, will be inserted, giving the patient a natural looking tooth.

Dental implants are increasingly popular for three main reasons; they do not need to be removed to be cleaned, they are 95% successful, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and they last a lifetime with proper oral hygiene.

Common Reasons to Seek Tooth Replacements
Generally speaking, Americans seek out cosmetic implants so that they can regain their beautiful smile. Smiles are crucial to our social interaction with each other. Why else would children smile almost 400 times a day? Dental cosmetic dentistry professionals use dental implants to give us back what we have lost, allowing us to better communicate our feelings with each other.

Common causes for tooth loss and damage vary. Age and trauma, such as a car accident or fight, often result in tooth loss. However, more extreme reasons have been known to occur. For instance, the late Whitney Houston is known to have worn dentures. She is thought to have lost her natural teeth thanks to habitual drug use.

Average Dental Implant Prices

There is no doubt that one of the best cosmetic dentistry procedures is the dental implant. However, this quality costs. As CNN Money writes, dental implant prices range from $3,000 to $4,500 per tooth. Because they are considered an elective procedure, most health insurance companies will not cover dental implant prices.

Many ask why dental implant prices are so high. The answer can be found in multiple factors. Firstly, the procedure is complex and uses expensive materials. Further, since each person’s teeth are unique, like fingerprints, there is no one-size-fits-all option for implants.

Clearly, dental implants represent a great leap forward in important cosmetic dental technologies. However, despite their benefits, the fact remains that they are quite expensive. It is up to each and every American to decide whether the costs are worth the benefits dental implants most certainly bring. More on this.

This sounds like a rich white person procedure if ever there was one.
